What is happening with the Habs?

What is happening? Well, the answer is very simple, all the players are in the training camp and the team is struggling to make a decision who will be the next young player to be promoted to NHL as a defenseman.

All this is very simple but what is truly happening? Well, Montreal acquired couple of new players and lost some great players.

Montrealers were promised by Mr. Gainey that he would bring a “big center-man” and bring some changes to the team. Well, according to many, Bob has deceived everyone and traded Chris Higgins to NY Rangers in return for Scott

Gomez. Scott is a great player but he isn’t the ‘big centre-man’ Bob promised.

Bob did admit that acquiring Gomez helped him attract other players on draft day (regardless the rumour players don’t want to play in Montreal).

Meanwhile all this was going on Habs fans were hoping Gainey would bring back some of the free agents. Many fans hoped to see Alex Kovalev, Saku Koivu and Mike Koimisarek in Canadiens jersey once again.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep Komisarek who is now signed up with the Habs rival Toronto. On the other hand he didn’t even offer a

contract to the hard working captain Saku Koivu. Koivu is now signed with Anaheim Ducks. The captain of Habs had no choice but to sign with another team after being insulted without being offered a contract. Instead of offering to Koivu, Gainey offered a contract to Kovalev, who is currently with Ottawa Senators.

Kovalev is a very talented player, who wished to comeback with the team, but disagreed with the contract offered by Gainey. Kovalev wasn’t able to make up his mind on time to be back with Habs, meanwhile Gainey had to move on. Gainey acquired Gionta, Cammalleri, Hal Gill, and J. Spacek. They are all great players but we would pefer to see some old players back on the team.

A while back on TSN reported that they have cr

eated The Ultimate Canadiens Team from the history of the Habs. Komisarek and Koivu were selected to be part of the ultimate team according to TSN. Those guys had a lot of potential; otherwise they wouldn’t be just selected.

All that been said, Bob Gainey did add some new guns to the team and lost some as same time.

Now the question that arises is the new team better and more improved?

Many people would answer yes, they are a better team and many others would disagree. Some people would say Montreal is trying to restart

their journey and have a brand new team and Coach Jacques Martin would bring something new. The reality is the new team is slightly a better team if compared with the statistics, and Habs are heading towards a new direction and restarting their journey. The new coach who thinks defence first, and whose career hasn’t bee

n that impressive, all he brings is some previous experience to the team. It doesn’t mean the new coach and the new team won’t bring success but it is only assumed right now, until they get down on the ice starting fall. Montreal Canadiens maybe a stronger team with statistics, but they will have to prove themselves on the ice, because it takes time to build up a strong chemistry between players, and coaches. Players will have to adapt to the new environment and show their magic which makes the money worth. Habs fans will always support their players and team despite the losses and wins, after all Habs Fans are the loudest and the best fans in entire league.

Let see what surprise the new team brings, while wishing all the players who are gone best of luck on their newest journey...
